I think that we should all pray for a lack of apathy and a true passion for the church. It seems really weird to me that so often we just totally forget the fact that people all around us are going to an eternity in Hell each moment. There's a song by Brandon Heath "Give Me Your Eyes" and it's really good and I think that that is exactly what chuches today need. Here are a few of the lyrics you should just listen to the song though...

It is true that we can become calloused to the needs of others outside of the church. We are called to love them and that means taking in their burdens and pain making them feel like they have not only a friend in you but a friend in Christ. It reminds me about what the apostle Paul said

"Do Everything in Love", 1 Cor. 16:14

Love them and care for them with all your being and that is having his heart. And yes we need to continually pray for that.

Compared to the new testament church what do you think we are lacking?
